one evening aboard the ship, we were surprised with a russian song and dance show put on by the crew.

yarmarka is a traditional festival originating from the 19th century, it consists of dancing, singing, and artists performing, not to mention food.

after the show, we had a tasty russian dinner.

thanks to tomas for shooting this video. the gentoos seemed to be the most friendly type of penguin, they’ll come right up and peck at you or try to bite backpack straps. the adelie and chinstrips ignored us for the most part.

antarctica is a harsh environment, most of the flora growing there consists of lichens and moss, so finding a tracheophyte (higher plant) is always of scientific interest.
